We will share more context from the highlights above later. For now, here are a couple nuggets for you travelers.

Upon arriving in Cancun and checking into your resort, you get a QR code to follow and schedule your COVID test for re-entry back into the United States. Less than 20 minutes later, you received an email confirmation of your scheduled test for the day before you leave and instructions on where to go – really easy!

You can clearly see what affect COVID has had on the local economy. Both Kukulcon and La Isla shopping centers are less than halfway filled with stores. We talked to an owner of a silver shop in Kukulcon who is still trying to weather the storm.

Alternatively, you can tell the city is positioning for a post COVID reboot. They are nearly finished with a complete rebuild of the La Isla outdoor shopping center (literally across the street from the old one) and are preparing to launch an all-new array of stores, a new casino and new entertainment venues.

The weather has been a mix of everything since we arrived. From sun and sand to late night tropical storms, we have already seen the full eclectic mix you’ll get this time of year. In general, the weather has been 82 in the day, dropping to 72 at night. Last night, we got to watch a tropical storm blast the coast for a few hours… glad it was not going to hang around for a few days!

Tomorrow we head to XelHa, one of our favorite attractions in Mexico. We can’t wait to report back on it!
